Published 13 Jul 2026

Across India, reported incidents reflected persistent concerns surrounding domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual offences, child trafficking, cyber-enabled exploitation, and public safety. A majority of offenders were known to the victims, indicating that violence frequently occurs within personal relationships. The findings emphasize the importance of strengthening victim protection, improving digital safety awareness, and enhancing preventive and law enforcement measures.

Across India, the reporting period revealed continuing patterns of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual offences, child trafficking, cyber-enabled exploitation, workplace harassment, and violent crimes against women. A significant number of reported incidents involved offenders who were known to the victims, reaffirming that violence against women frequently occurs within trusted personal or family relationships rather than through stranger attacks.

Relationship-related violence emerged as one of the most dominant themes. Multiple cases involved former partners, husbands, boyfriends, and in-laws committing acts ranging from attempted murder and fatal assaults to prolonged abuse and dowry-related violence. These incidents illustrate how unresolved interpersonal conflicts, coercive behaviour, and domestic abuse continue to escalate into severe criminal offences.

The reporting period also reflected the growing impact of technology-enabled crimes against women. Online matrimonial platforms were allegedly misused for financial fraud and sexual exploitation, demonstrating how digital spaces are increasingly being exploited to manipulate victims emotionally and financially. This trend highlights the need for stronger public awareness regarding online safety and identity verification.

Another significant concern was violence affecting children, including infant homicide and child trafficking. These incidents underline the importance of coordinated action between law enforcement agencies, child protection authorities, and community organisations to strengthen early intervention mechanisms.

Public spaces also continued to present safety challenges for women, with reports of harassment during train travel and intimidation in workplaces. These incidents reinforce the necessity of strengthening surveillance, improving complaint mechanisms, and ensuring safe environments across public transport systems and workplaces.
