Gujarat: Police registered a case after a 13-year-old Class 8 student at a residential school in Kutch allegedly reported sexual assault by the school’s principal. Police said the alleged assaults occurred on multiple occasions near the girls’ hostel. The principal and three other people, including the hostel warden and school management members, were booked under the BNS and POCSO Act; police alleged that school authorities failed to promptly report the suspected abuse.
Action to Be Taken
Schools and residential institutions must immediately report suspected sexual offences against children and ensure the child’s safety, medical care and access to child-protection services.
