24-Year-Old Woman Drugged and Gang-Raped by Five Men in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh: A 24-year-old woman was allegedly drugged and gang-raped by five men in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar. The incident occurred in a village under the jurisdiction of the Chharthawal police station when the woman went to a nearby field to gather grass for cattle. The perpetrators reportedly forced an intoxicating substance on her, rendering her unconscious before committing the crime. 

When she failed to return home by evening, her family searched for her and discovered her unconscious in a nearby forest area. She has been hospitalized for specialized medical treatment. The police have registered a case against a primary suspect named Umar and his four associates based on the victim’s complaint. The culprits are currently at large, and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjay Kumar confirmed that three special police teams have been deployed to capture them.

The case carries major legal gravity under India’s criminal justice framework, especially regarding the strict handling of sexual offenses. The police have registered the First Information Report (FIR) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, specifically, crimes of gang rape fall under strict, non-bailable provisions of the new penal code, which carry severe punishments including rigorous life imprisonment or the death penalty. 

Using a drug to overpower a victim bypasses any arguments regarding “implied consent” and underscores the planned, predatory intent behind the crime.
