Anganwadi Worker Found Dead in Pathanamthitta Under Suspicious Circumstances 

Gavi, Pathanamthitta: A 32-year-old Anganwadi worker, originally a native of Moozhiyar, was found dead near the road at Gavi Meenar in Pathanamthitta. Local residents discovered the body and alerted the authorities. Preliminary observations have raised strong suspicions of sexual assault and murder, as the victim’s clothes were found torn and the body was discarded away from the main road. The Moozhiyar police arrived at the scene promptly and have initiated an active investigation into the incident.

The discovery of the victim’s body with torn clothing away from the main road strongly points toward a coordinated offense involving sexual violence and homicide. In the Indian criminal justice framework, such an incident immediately triggers the application of severe substantive charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.  

Specifically, the police are required to register a case under Section 103 (Murder) for the unlawful termination of life, alongside Section 64 or Section 65 (Rape/Aggravated Rape) based on the initial circumstantial evidence of physical violation. Furthermore, if the medical evidence establishes that the death was a direct consequence of injuries sustained during a sexual assault, Section 66 of the BNS becomes highly relevant. This particular section strictly mandates a minimum of twenty years of rigorous imprisonment, extending up to a life sentence or the death penalty, for causing the death of a victim during such an assault.
