Madrasa Teacher Arrested in Bihar for Sexual Abuse of Minors 

Malappuram: A Madrasa teacher named A.K. Muhammed, who was on the run after being accused of sexually abusing at least 14 children, has been arrested in Bihar. Muhammed was previously employed at a Madrasa in Athavanad, Valanchery. Following the allegations, he fled Kerala, prompting the police to expand their search across multiple states. Acting on confidential information, the investigation team successfully tracked and apprehended him in Bihar. Authorities have indicated that there are approximately 20 cases registered against him across various parts of the state. He will be brought to Kerala after being presented before a local court.

The legal proceedings in this case are primarily governed by the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, a specialized legislation in India designed to shield minors from sexual exploitation. Given the gravity of the accusations, the charges invoke strict punitive measures, reflecting the legal system’s zero-tolerance policy toward crimes against children. Furthermore, the case involves charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), ensuring that the accused faces prosecution for the distinct criminal acts committed during the period of his employment.

The investigation team is currently in the process of bringing the accused back to Kerala to proceed with formal interrogation. Authorities are conducting a thorough review to determine if the number of victims is higher than the 14 initially identified, as well as checking for any potential accomplices who may have helped the accused evade capture or attempted to cover up the incidents. 

The police have confirmed that they will continue to scrutinize the case for any broader institutional negligence. Once the initial questioning is completed, officials intend to disclose further details regarding the investigation. The focus remains on strengthening the evidence through digital forensics and victim testimonies to ensure a successful prosecution under both the POCSO Act and the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
