Ernakulam: A special POCSO court has sentenced a 42-year-old man to 43 years of imprisonment after finding him guilty in a case involving the sexual abuse of a minor girl under the guise of performing rituals to remove fear. According to the prosecution, the accused had gained the family’s trust by claiming to possess spiritual powers and allegedly subjected the child to repeated abuse during the rituals. The court also imposed a fine on the convict. As the case involves a minor, no information that could identify the survivor has been included.
Action to Be Taken
Families should exercise caution when seeking the services of individuals claiming supernatural or spiritual healing powers, particularly where children are involved. Any suspicion of child abuse or exploitation should be reported immediately to the police or child protection authorities. Authorities should continue to ensure strict enforcement of child protection laws while providing appropriate care and support to survivors.
