Centre Summons Meta Over Alleged Child Exploitation Advertisements on Instagram

New Delhi: The Central Government has directed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to summon Meta and seek an explanation over advertisements on Instagram that allegedly promoted child sexual abuse material. According to official sources, the ministry will ask the company to explain how such advertisements appeared on the platform, the safeguards in place to prevent them, and the corrective measures taken after the issue came to light. Authorities are also expected to review Meta’s advertisement screening and content moderation systems to ensure compliance with India’s digital safety and intermediary regulations.
