National Commission for Women Seeks Swift Action in Alleged Rape of Tribal Woman 

Wayanad: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has urged Kerala Police to take immediate and strict action in the alleged rape of a 23-year-old tribal woman from Odisha who was working as a domestic helper in Kerala. According to the complaint, the woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 75-year-old man. An FIR has been registered, and the accused is reportedly absconding. The NCW has sought a fair, impartial, and time-bound investigation and asked the Director General of Police, Kerala, to submit an action-taken report. The case has drawn attention to the need for stronger protection of women migrant workers and vulnerable tribal women employed in private households. 

Action to be Taken: 

The police should make every effort to trace and arrest the accused at the earliest and ensure a fair and speedy investigation. The survivor should be provided with medical care, psychological counselling, legal assistance, and adequate protection throughout the investigation. Authorities should also strengthen monitoring mechanisms to safeguard women working as domestic helpers and conduct awareness programmes to prevent the exploitation of vulnerable women in workplaces and residential settings.
