Ernakulam: A 46-year-old woman, Sini Biju, who worked as a cleaning staff member at a private hospital in Kothamangalam, lost her life after she was allegedly attacked by her husband at their home in Pindimana, near Kothamangalam, Ernakulam district, on the evening of July 23. According to police, the couple became involved in a heated argument over a personal matter, which escalated into violence. During the altercation, her husband allegedly attacked her with a knife, causing fatal injuries.

Police should ensure a speedy and impartial investigation, file the charge sheet efficiently, and prosecute the accused through a fast-track court. The victim’s family should receive counselling, legal aid, and financial assistance where eligible. Authorities should strengthen domestic violence prevention measures, encourage early reporting of abuse, expand access to helplines, protection orders, and safe shelters, and conduct community awareness programmes to help identify and prevent domestic violence before it escalates into fatal incidents.
