National Commission for Women Seeks Report on Minor Girl’s Abduction and Sexual Assault 

Bengaluru: The National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motu cognisance of the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a minor girl in Bengaluru. According to reports, the girl was allegedly kidnapped, forcibly intoxicated, and sexually assaulted. Following media reports, the NCW directed the Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) to submit a detailed action taken report within seven days. The Commission also instructed the police to ensure a fair investigation, provide the survivor with medical treatment, counselling, and protection, and take strict legal action against those responsible under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act.  

Action to be Taken: 

Authorities should conduct a swift and impartial investigation, ensure the accused are prosecuted under the POCSO Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and provide the survivor with medical care, psychological counselling, legal assistance, and protection. The police should also strengthen child safety measures, increase surveillance in vulnerable areas, and promote awareness programmes encouraging the prompt reporting of crimes against women and children.
