Hyderabad: A trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a female co-trainee at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad. According to the police complaint, the accused allegedly stalked the woman, subjected her to repeated harassment, criminal intimidation, and secretly recorded a private video, which was allegedly used to threaten and blackmail her. Following an investigation, the Hyderabad Police arrested the accused and initiated legal proceedings. The incident has raised concerns about women’s safety and professional conduct even within prestigious law enforcement training institutions.
Authorities should ensure a prompt, fair, and transparent investigation while providing the survivor with adequate legal, medical, and psychological support. Strict disciplinary and legal action should be taken against anyone found guilty to reinforce accountability within public institutions. Training academies should strengthen mechanisms for preventing sexual harassment, establish confidential complaint systems, and ensure that complaints are addressed promptly without fear of retaliation. Regular gender-sensitization programmes and awareness initiatives should also be conducted to promote a safe and respectful working environment.
