Trainee IPS Officer Sent to Judicial Custody in Sexual Assault Case

Hyderabad: A trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, M. Uday Krishna Reddy, was sent to judicial custody in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a fellow probationary officer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad. According to police, the survivor filed a complaint alleging that she was sexually assaulted. The accused was arrested, produced before a court, and remanded to judicial custody while the investigation continues. 

Action to be Taken 

The authorities should conduct a prompt, fair, and impartial investigation while ensuring that the survivor receives comprehensive medical care, psychological counselling, and legal assistance. If the allegations are substantiated, appropriate disciplinary and legal action should be taken against the accused in accordance with the law. In addition, training institutions should strengthen their policies on preventing sexual harassment and assault, establish effective complaint and support mechanisms, and conduct regular awareness and sensitisation programmes to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all trainees.
