Munich Car-Ramming Attack Life Sentence (Germany)

Munich Car-Ramming Attack Life Sentence (Germany)

Germany: The Higher Regional Court in Munich sentenced 25-year-old Farhad N. to life imprisonment for a deadly car-ramming attack on a trade union demonstration in Munich that killed a 37-year-old mother and her 2-year-old child and injured dozens of others. The court convicted the suspect on two counts of murder and 23 counts of attempted murder. The judges explicitly ruled that the offender carries “particularly serious guilt,” which legally precludes standard parole eligibility after 15 years under German law.

Action to be Taken

Following his conviction on two counts of murder and 23 counts of attempted murder, the Higher Regional Court in Munich formally sentenced the 25-year-old perpetrator to life imprisonment and invoked a special legal finding of “particular gravity of guilt” under Section 57a of the German Criminal Code, which legally blocks standard parole eligibility after 15 years. Based on medical evaluations confirming his full criminal responsibility, the court rejected defense requests for psychiatric facility placement and ordered him immediately remanded into a high-security German prison to serve out his life sentence, ensuring he remains incarcerated without early parole or pre-sentence deportation.
