India — Woman sexually assaulted in Telangana

Telangana: A young woman in Paloncha mandal, Telangana, and her family members reportedly staged a protest outside a young man’s house, accusing him of sexually assaulting her after allegedly befriending her on the pretext of marriage. The woman and her family have made allegations against the man, and the matter has been reported to authorities. Police action and further investigation are expected to establish the facts of the case. 

Action to be taken: 
Authorities should conduct a prompt and impartial investigation, record the survivor’s statement sensitively, and ensure that she is protected from intimidation or retaliation. If the allegations are substantiated, the accused should face appropriate legal proceedings. The survivor should also have access to medical care, counselling and legal assistance throughout the investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.
