Idukki:A fourth-grade student was allegedly beaten on the head with a stick by a teacher at a government lower primary school in the Munnar plantation area after misreading something written on the blackboard. Munnar police registered a case against the 50-year-old teacher under the Juvenile Justice Act. The student reportedly stayed away from school for a week and was taken to Chithirapuram Government Hospital for treatment after complaining of head and eye pain.
Action to Be Taken
Schools should strictly prohibit corporal punishment and ensure that all complaints of physical abuse are investigated. Appropriate medical and emotional support should be provided to the affected student.
