A pastor and two women appeared before the Atteridgeville Magistrates’ Court in connection with serious alleged offences against a woman and her four-month-old child. The accused face charges including conspiracy to commit murder and fraud, while the pastor and one of the women also face charges of rape, human trafficking, kidnapping and other offences. According to the prosecution, the woman was allegedly taken to the Hennops River under the pretext of religious rituals, where she was raped, and her infant was killed. Action to Be Taken
Authorities should ensure a thorough investigation, protect the survivor from intimidation and provide access to medical care, trauma counselling and legal assistance. Anyone experiencing sexual violence or coercion should seek emergency help from local authorities or a trusted support organisation.
