Ernakulam :The Kerala High Court directed the state government to appoint Special Public Prosecutors exclusively for cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act within six weeks. The direction came while the court was considering a challenge to an arrangement that allowed prosecutors appointed for POCSO cases to handle certain cases under the Juvenile Justice Act as well. The ruling aims to ensure dedicated prosecution arrangements for child sexual-abuse cases.
Action to Be Taken
The state should implement the court’s direction within the specified period and ensure that child survivors have access to specialised, timely and sensitive legal proceedings.
