Man Arrested for Alleged Sexual Abuse of Minor Under Pretext of Spiritual Treatment

Malappuram:Police arrested a man known as Jilani Thangal, identified in the report as Jaseel, in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of a 17-year-old girl in Edavanna. According to the complaint, he allegedly lured the girl to his house under the pretext of providing spiritual treatment. Police said the case came to light after the girl disclosed the alleged abuse to relatives. The accused and the girl’s mother had reportedly been missing for more than two months before police traced them near the Kerala–Karnataka border. The accused was remanded to judicial custody. The child’s identity is withheld.

Families should report suspected child abuse to the police or child-protection authorities. Institutions offering spiritual or alternative treatments should not be allowed to use their position to exploit children, and survivors must receive confidential support.
