Housewife Attacked, Gold Ornaments Stolen in Early-Morning Robbery in Chirayinkeezhu

Thiruvananthapuram: A 42-year-old housewife was attacked and robbed of her gold ornaments by a two-member gang in the early hours of Monday at Alamcode near Chirayinkeezhu.

The victim, Sunitha, wife of Vinod, was milking cows in the cowshed attached to her residence at around 4 a.m. when the assailants struck. According to police, the attackers first overpowered a worker present at the premises before targeting Sunitha.

The gang allegedly threw chilli powder at the woman and threatened her with a sharp weapon. They forcibly removed her gold ornaments, including a chain and bracelet weighing approximately 2.5 sovereigns. During the struggle, the attackers reportedly injured her hand while attempting to remove another ornament.

Hearing her cries for help, Sunitha’s children rushed to the scene. The suspects then attempted to enter the house but were unsuccessful after the children locked the door from inside. The robbers fled the area with the stolen jewellery. Sunitha sustained injuries in the attack and was admitted to Attingal Taluk Hospital for treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable.

Kadakkavoor police have registered a case and launched an investigation. A dog squad and fingerprint experts examined the scene as part of efforts to identify and trace the suspects. Police are also reviewing available evidence and gathering information from local residents. The incident has raised concerns among residents over the safety of people engaged in early-morning agricultural and dairy activities in the area.
