Australia: Experts Renew Call to Address Violence Against Women

Australia: Experts Renew Call to Address Violence Against Women

Australia: Following the deaths of two women and two girls in separate incidents within four days, Australian experts renewed calls for stronger action to prevent gender-based and domestic violence. Advocates highlighted that many recommendations from previous reviews have yet to be fully implemented and urged governments to prioritize long-term prevention.

Action to be Taken:
Governments should fully implement the recommendations made by previous domestic violence inquiries and ensure that laws protecting women and children are effectively enforced. Greater investment should be made in crisis shelters, counselling services, legal aid, and rehabilitation programmes to support survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. Early intervention strategies should be strengthened by training teachers, healthcare professionals, social workers, and police officers to identify warning signs of abuse and respond appropriately.
