Delays in Police and Medical Procedures Add to Beed Minor Rape Survivor’s Trauma

Beed, Maharashtra: A minor girl who reported being raped by a relative in Maharashtra’s Beed district allegedly faced significant delays in accessing both legal and medical assistance, raising concerns about the response of authorities in cases involving sexual violence against children.

Following the alleged assault, the girl and her family approached a local police station to lodge a complaint. Reports indicate that they remained at the station throughout the night, with the First Information Report (FIR) being registered only in the early hours of the next morning.

The family’s difficulties reportedly continued at a government hospital, where the survivor was taken for a medical examination. Upon arrival, they were informed that a female gynecologist was unavailable. Despite waiting for several hours and making repeated inquiries, the examination could not be conducted immediately, resulting in a prolonged delay.

The incident has drawn criticism from child rights advocates and social activists, who argue that survivors of sexual assault should receive prompt legal and medical support. They have emphasized that delays in registering complaints and conducting medical examinations can further aggravate the trauma experienced by victims.

The case has once again highlighted concerns about gaps in the support system for survivors and the need for improved coordination between law enforcement agencies and healthcare institutions to ensure timely assistance.
