Elderly Woman Alleges Police Assault at Kerala Secretariat

Thiruvananthapuram: An elderly woman from Varkala alleged that she was assaulted by police personnel when she visited the Kerala Secretariat to meet the Chief Minister regarding a financial complaint. She claimed that officers forcibly pushed her into a police vehicle, causing facial injuries. She later sought treatment at a government hospital and lodged a complaint with the police. However, the Cantonment Police denied the allegations and stated that no case has been registered, describing the complaint as baseless. 

Action to be Taken: 

The allegations should be investigated promptly, impartially, and transparently by an independent authority to ensure accountability. CCTV footage, witness statements, and medical records should be examined to establish the facts. If any misconduct by police personnel is found, appropriate disciplinary and legal action should be taken. At the same time, the complainant should be provided with necessary medical care, legal assistance, and protection throughout the inquiry. Authorities should also reinforce protocols for respectful treatment of citizens visiting government offices and strengthen mechanisms for receiving and addressing public grievances safely and fairly.
