First-Grade Student Allegedly Injured After Teacher Punishment at School

Thiruvananthapuram: A complaint has been lodged alleging that a first-grade student was injured after being punished by a teacher at a government higher secondary school in Kavalayoor. According to the child’s family, the teacher allegedly struck the student with a cane during an English class because she was not writing letters quickly enough. The child reportedly sustained an injury to two fingers on her right hand and later received treatment at a taluk hospital before being referred to a medical college hospital. Complaints have been submitted to the school authorities, the police, the Child Welfare Committee, and the local panchayat. The headmistress stated that the teacher had punished several students after the class became noisy and that the incident would be examined during a meeting with the child’s parents. The matter remains under inquiry.
