Idukki: The Idukki Fast Track Court sentenced a 46-year-old man to six years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a ₹30,000 fine for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl near Vagamon, Idukki. The court found him guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after examining witness testimonies and evidence. The fine, if recovered, will be given to the survivor, and the court also recommended compensation through the District Legal Services Authority.
Authorities should ensure strict and timely enforcement of the POCSO Act, conduct speedy investigations and trials in child sexual abuse cases, and provide survivors with comprehensive medical, psychological, and legal support. Communities should also strengthen child protection awareness, encourage prompt reporting of abuse, and implement preventive measures to safeguard children from sexual exploitation.
