Kerala Court Awards Death Sentence in Nenmara Double Murder Case

Kerala Court Awards Death Sentence in Nenmara Double Murder Case

Palakkad: A court in Kerala sentenced a 61-year-old man to death for the brutal murder of a woman and her son in the 2025 Nenmara double murder case. The judgment was delivered on 20 July 2026 after the accused was found guilty of the crime. The verdict highlights the judiciary’s firm stance against heinous crimes targeting women. Investigators revealed that Chenthamara had earlier been convicted in the 2019 murder of Sudhakaran’s wife, Sajitha. After being released on bail in that case, he allegedly targeted the remaining members of the same family and carried out the double murder. During the trial, the prosecution presented strong evidence, including witness testimonies and material evidence, establishing the accused’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

While delivering the sentence, the court observed that the crime fell under the “rarest of rare” category. It noted that the convict had shown no remorse, had justified his actions, and posed a continuing threat to society because of his previous violent offences. Considering the brutality of the crime and the likelihood of reoffending, the court imposed the death penalty, emphasizing the need to protect society and uphold justice for the victims.

Action to be Taken:

The legal proceedings, including appeals, should be completed without unnecessary delays to ensure timely justice for the victims and their family. Law enforcement agencies should strengthen preventive policing by closely monitoring individuals with a history of violent offences and responding immediately to complaints involving domestic or neighbourhood disputes before they escalate into serious crimes. In addition, community awareness programmes should be conducted to encourage the public to report threats and suspicious behaviour at an early stage, helping prevent similar incidents in the future.
