Kerala HC case involving alleged assault of women MLAs — Thiruvananthapuram/Kochi

Kerala HC case involving alleged assault of women MLAs — Thiruvananthapuram/Kochi

Thiruvananthapuram/Kochi: The Kerala High Court quashed criminal proceedings against four former UDF MLAs in connection with the 2015 Assembly ruckus, including allegations concerning the assault of women MLAs. The court found that the relevant offences, including the allegation of insulting the modesty of women, could not be sustained against them.

Action to be taken

The judgment highlights the importance of ensuring that allegations involving the assault, wrongful restraint, or dignity of women are investigated and prosecuted strictly according to the evidence and applicable law. Public representatives should maintain proper standards of conduct inside legislative institutions and ensure that political disagreements do not escalate into physical confrontations.
