Kochi,Ernakulam: A Fast Track Special POCSO Court in Perumbavoor has sentenced a 36-year-old man to four life terms and 35 years of rigorous imprisonment for abducting and sexually assaulting a child in Aluva.
The convict, was found guilty of kidnapping a sleeping child from a rented house in Edayapuram, Aluva, in September 2023 and sexually assaulting the victim.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of ₹20.81 lakh. The prosecution successfully proved charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
The investigation was conducted by a special police team, which gathered crucial evidence leading to the conviction. The court’s verdict is considered one of the strongest punishments awarded in a child sexual assault case in the state.
The fine amount will be used as compensation and support for the victim, as directed by the court.
