Minor girl alleges sexual abuse; man arrested in Vellarada

Thiruvananthapuram: Vellarada police arrested a 31-year-old man after a schoolgirl disclosed during counselling that she had allegedly been sexually abused about a year earlier. The matter came to the attention of authorities after she told teachers about the alleged abuse. Police registered a case, arrested the accused and produced him before court, where he was remanded in custody.

Children who disclose sexual abuse should be listened to seriously and given immediate protection, specialised counselling and legal assistance while their identity remains confidential.
