POCSO Case Accused Escapes from Police Custody During Train Transit

POCSO Case Accused Escapes from Police Custody During Train Transit

Kannur: A 48-year-old man arrested in connection with a POCSO case allegedly escaped from police custody while being transported by train to Kannur. According to police, the accused had been traced and arrested in Pune, Maharashtra, following information about his whereabouts after he had remained absconding. During the journey to Kerala, he reportedly escaped from the train in the Ratnagiri region. Police have launched a search operation to trace the accused, and the investigation is ongoing. As the case involves a minor, no information that could identify the victim has been included.

Action to Be Taken
When transporting individuals in serious criminal cases, authorities should ensure appropriate security measures are in place to minimise the risk of escape. Any lapse during prisoner transit should be reviewed promptly, and coordinated efforts between police units in different states should be strengthened to locate absconding suspects quickly. Cases involving children should continue to protect the identity and privacy of the victim throughout the investigation and legal process.
